Awhile ago, I went to DLSU-Information Technology Center (ITC) for the usability testing of the improved version of My.LaSalle’s enrollment system. It took me approximately 30 minutes to finish the whole testing.
The new enrollment system of my.LaSalle is actually not new. According to Ms. Ampel of ITC, the navigation through enrollment pages were improved. But mostly, the program codes of the system were also improved to make the student’s enrollment experience faster. So when will the students feel the revitalized My.LaSalle Enrollment System? Students will feel an enhanced My.LaSalle enrollment on the enrollment for the second term for school year 2008-2009. Unfortunately, I don’t have any units left to enroll.
So what’s the result of the usability testing. I filled up several pages of four questionnaires. In terms of design and aesthetics, it was still the same old popup enrollment page mostly dominated by green and white colors. The new navigation was confusing since they placed PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons in every page of the enrollment process. I was confused in the last part of the process, the STEP 4 of 4, since there were four choices: PREVIOUS, SAVE, SUBMIT, and NEXT. The PREVIOUS button is understandable but the NEXT button is not. Why is there next button when the choice for the next page should be SAVE or SUBMIT. Eventually, you will be directed to the confimation page.
Adding courses was also a problem. Whenever I press the ENTER key, when adding courses, I was returned to the previous page. The button indexes may be wrong.
Deleting a course is a problem also. I was not able to delete a course since I
have already chosen a section for the course. The problem now is that I cannot change or delete a section. Another problem occured. I enrolled in three subjects, FRENCH1, SPANONE and another. In the test case, two of the courses had the same schedule. I cannot proceed with the enrollment with this scenario because the system will not allow it. I tried removing the subject or at least changing sections but I cannot. “The Die is Cast!” It’s the end of the test. Fortunately, ITC manually removed one of the subject so that I can proceed with the testing.
I continued the test. In about 30 minutes, I finished it. I got a free C2 Lemon and a French Toast.
