Next Eleven

In 2005, the Philippines, along with 10 other countries, was identified by Goldman Sachs as a potential large economy in the world in the future. Supposedly, these nations will be alongside with the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) as one of the superpowers by 2050. Several factors were considered in the selection of Next Eleven (N-11) including the following:

  1. Political Maturity
  2. Macroeconomic Stability
  3. Openness of Trade and Investment Policies
  4. Quality of Education

Included in the list are countries from developing nations, newly industrialized countries and developed nation. The following countries are part of N-11:

Developing Countries

Newly Industrialized Countries

Developed Country

Given all these scenario, where will the Philippines be after a shift in world’s superpower?
