The case of the missing 28 Pesos

This is a story of how big telecom companies like Globe Telecom eat up our money.

Monday

I asked for PhP 2 Share-a-Load from my sister so that I can load up my phone using my G-Cash. When I received the PhP 2 confirmation, I tried to load using my G-Cash. Unfortunately, a “Checked Operator Services” popped. Where did my PhP 2 go? I just used my SMART post-paid.

Tuesday

Around 6:30 p.m., I asked for PhP 2 Share-a-Load from my sister so that I can load up my phone using my G-Cash. When I received the PhP 2 confirmation, I tried to load using my G-Cash. Unfortunately, a “Checked Operator Services” popped again. Where did my PhP 2 go this time? I just used my SMART post-paid.

Since I cannot load myself using my G-Cash, at around 7:30 p.m., I went to nearby sari-sari store to load PhP 30. I received my load but when I texted “ETXT 20” to subscribe to Everybodytxt of Globe, It replied “…magload na para makapag everybodytxt 20.” I checked by balance and it’s now only PhP 2. What happened to my PhP 28 load? When I got home, I called Globe’s hotline (211) using my mobile phone but I cannot anymore. Why cannot I call a telecom hotline when I do not have

a load? Should not this service be free? This is gravely illogical.

I am already annoyed and fuming with anger. I want to throw my aged Nokia 3230 but I remembered, it costs to throw your phone. So, I threw my banana peel.

I used our PLDT landline to call Globe. Shame on Globe! When a customer service representative answered my call, I told her, “I loaded PhP 30 today and before I could use it, it’s gone!”

Of course, she asked if I am subscribed to any Globe services, if I am receiving any alerts from access numbers. I know this line because I also complained several months ago on similar matter. “Yes, I am receiving updates.” The CSR told me

that I am subscribed to a caller ring back. I told her, “Yes I subscribed because your company said it was free for three days, and before the third day ends, I replied STOP.” I told her that the fact that when you call my mobile number a standard ring back sound reaches your ears, it simply means that I am not subscribed anymore. It’s enough of evidence. I am already furious. I know what I text even months ago, I told her.

As usual, CSR will tell you that she will forward your concern to their technical engineers. If my complaint is valid, they will return my load, otherwise, I will receive a notification with reason.

I told her, “I want my PhP 28 back; I want my PhP 28 back! Or if not, inform me why.”

Wednesday

In the afternoon, I received a notification from Globe; I got my PhP 28 back.

Telecom companies should clean up their glitches. These glitches may cause mayhem! Consumers pay the right amount but the service has been constantly poor. This is what is missing in Philippine Legislation. The citizenry should be able to sue poor performing companies especially those given government franchises like Globe!
